Stockroom questions

Short answers for the moment a record, forecast or order needs a closer look.

What makes an inventory system intelligent?

It uses operational data to identify exceptions, estimate future demand and support decisions. The label does not guarantee accurate records or autonomous ordering.

Does real-time stock mean the shelf count is correct?

No. It usually describes how quickly recorded events update a balance. Unrecorded movements, poor location data and handling errors can still create a physical discrepancy.

Trace the stock gap.

Do we need RFID to monitor stock automatically?

No. Barcode scans, point-of-sale events and reliable integrations can support automated monitoring. RFID may help some workflows, but read coverage, tagging costs and process fit need testing.

How much sales history is enough for forecasting?

There is no universal minimum. Seasonal patterns need relevant seasonal evidence, while new items may require comparable products and explicit assumptions. Test performance at the decision horizon.

Should stockout days be recorded as zero demand?

Not automatically. Zero sales during a stockout do not prove zero demand. Preserve availability flags and document any estimation of lost demand.

Read demand in context.

What is the difference between safety stock and a reorder point?

Safety stock is an uncertainty allowance. A reorder point commonly combines expected lead-time demand with that allowance to define an ordering trigger.

Work through a reorder example.

Can orders be released without human approval?

Some stable, bounded decisions can be automated after validation. Keep approval limits and exception handling for unusual quantities, stale inputs and uncertain supply.

Which forecast accuracy measure should we use?

Use measures suited to the decision and data. Check absolute error and bias, understand percentage measures around zeros, and assess availability and waste outcomes.

What should we connect first?

Choose one defined movement with clear ownership, such as confirmed receipts or completed sales. Validate identifiers, units, duplicate handling and reconciliation before widening scope.

Plan the integration checks.

Does this website connect to our stock system?

No. This is an independent information website. Its tabs explain processes, and its contact tool prepares text locally without sending a message or connecting to retail systems.
